The field got away on time and were headed by Reverend followed by The Admiral and Cuttlestone. After 2 furlongs Reverend continued to show, although Common took closer order, followed in Indian file by Orvieto and The Admiral. Fully 5 furlongs from home Patrick Blue, who had been amongst the leaders, tired quickly, and even Common was having to be urged. Approaching the distance the favourite did not look as though he would get on terms with Reverend, but he responded to every call by Barrett and won by a length in 3 minutes 14.4 seconds, with a neck between the brave Reverend and St Simon of the Rock. Common did not race as a two year old, but joined the immortals West Australian, Gladiateur, Lord Lyon and Ormonde as a wearer of the Triple Crown. | Over Round 104% | ||
